Re: [Killietalk] BNL
I'm just sitting here chuckling at all this debate on BNL delivery. When the
members first asked for an eBNL over a decade ago, this was exactly the
controversy predicted and this is exactly what prompted the delays in its
implementation.

With all due respect Mr. Behrmann, I think your post suggests otherwise.

I agree, except that nobody is advocating the eBNL just becuase "we
can". There are several benefits to using it, for both individual
members and the AKA organization as a whole - simultaneous delivery,
faster delivery, fewer space restrictions, ability to search and
process electronic text, less paper consumed, cost savings for the
AKA, among others. It would be silly not to exploit those advantages
just because every member can't make use of them. In particular, the
suggestion made by somebody that the delivery of the eBNL be delayed
in order to level the playingfield for non-eBNL subscribers is
particularly strange.
There is certainly room for everyone, and I hope the AKA never loses
sight of that. However, people have to accept the consequences of the
choices they make and realize that most meaningful choices entail a
compromise - in this case, choosing to rely only on the paper BNL
means you gain a physical paper version (a benefit to some) and don't
need to rely on computers or internet knowledge to make use of it, but
you give up some of the advantages of an electronic version, such as
speedy delivery. It's no different than my personal choice not to own
a car - certainly there are disadvantages but it's the right choice
for me. I don't expect everyone else to give up their cars just so
they share the same disadvantages as I do. I hope the AKA continues to
offer choices like this to members, but we members have to be mature
enough live with the choices we've made.
