[Killietalk] Conventions and regional shows(stressin the good things)

Hey folks....dont respond to the list very often.....but thought this needs
to be put to rest...So...as far as I can tell....we get new people in the
hobby from regional shows...where they can find killies without the high postage
of the internet sales or the high cost of gasoline............new people come
to a show ...meet people who are happy to get them started...and are ready
to answer questions.....and the spark of interest catches
them.......................there are already too many shows in the fall(specially for people who
have kids and would like to stay married).........so April became the time
for the Chicago show..(its a good time for here)........more than enough time
between it and the National.......Other conventions come up in the other
months,and have for many years(June is IBC,among others).................There are
all kinds of reasons why the convention wont work for many people......and
cost is a big one..........and family things....etc
etc................................I had the opportunity to attend many conventions...all over the
country.for a lot of years(single was a big factor)..but lately had to make the
choice of attending Boy Scout functions for the Order of the Arrow..with my
sons.....they only grow up once....and each trip is more important as they get
into the later teens.......This year, because the show is in
Milwaukee........I choose to honor my commitment to the Milwaukee club ,as auctioneer(I do
this each Nov as the WAKO auctioneer)..............I will greatly miss my trip
to camp with my sons........and will manage to swing the trip ,even if I have
to sleep in the car.............If ya cant go send fish...........be
happy....and enjoy the hobby.....its not about changing the date....it has alot to do
with time and the economy..............if we do it right locally....as time
and money frees up for the new hobbiest they will come............More
importantly, this may be the only forum ,where they can learn without the local
club.....make sure we give them a good reason to
return.......Kurt.................Kurt E.  Bihlmayer_...PARANORke at aol.com..............(not normally known
for this much common sense)
