Re: [Killietalk] One AKAer if favor of a different time of year for the convention
My biggest disagreement with the concept of a Vacation Convention is simple
and pretty much proven last year in Tampa. Not to be against certain groups
of people - and I understand the restrictions of life and family - but the
National Convention IMHO - is about the hobby, not vacations. (I know I
know - flame shield up) Last year, the numbers at the Tampa Convention were
lower than hoped for in nearly every aspect - people and show fish. Those
who go for a vacation - rarely take fish for the show or sale, thus lowering
the participation in the most important aspects of fund-raising - both from
lowered numbers of fish as well as less spending money *spent it all at
Disney World etc*.
I can also confirm right now - the 2008 AKA National Convention in 2008 will
be on Memorial Day weekend in Syracuse, NY. Its not about moving it - its
about contracts with the hotel as well as planning based on tradition.
Just my two-cents worth anyway.
Tom
