[Killietalk] Fry
I've got a ten day old planted tank that I am (finally) setting up for
some dwarf Cichlids at home and I just added my first fish (three Sterbi
Corys) and some amano shrimp last night. When I was checking on the
tank later in the evening to see how they were all doing I made an
interesting discovery, it would seem I have some fry in the tank!
I'm thinking it must be killifish as to my limited knowledge about egg
layers, non-killie eggs can't survive being out of water for very long?
I've no idea how many I have I only saw the one as it was getting washed
about by the filter flow, how to feed any fry is also an issue as it's a
29G tank. I'll try and get some baby fish food on the way home tonight
and see if I can count how many fry I have. The plants were from
Tropica but I guess the eggs could have been added at any point in
transit to Vancouver.
I had been planning on adding a shoal of about a dozen Rummynose Tetras
at the weekend but I'm not sure about that now as they could eat the fry
potentially? I guess I could try to catch the fry and see if I could
raise them in a livebearer trap. It's a very pleasant start to a new
planted tank though, I thought mystery critters only happened with
marine tanks!
