Re: [Killietalk] pH (was Re: copper leaching from new plumbing)
Does anyone use polyfilters? You know, the ion exchange pads that most of
the well stocked LFS's have. If you use them in freshwater, you recharge them
by rinsing in saltwater and if used in saltwater, you rinse them in
freshwater. I have used these for a number of things from amonia to copper sulfate.
I'm just wondering, based on the discussion, if anyone has any experience
with these. I have also used them blindly, not knowing what I was removing,
and had miraculous results where the fish became less stressed after the tank
turned over a couple of times utilizing a simple power filter. I simply cut a
portion of the poly filter at about the size of the pre-made pad and
installed it in it's place.
I also have used them to filter rainwater before I use it. What happens is
that the filter will discolor and it is indicative that it is working. It
also filters mechanically.
