Re: [Killietalk] Tank Heating

Another reason to avoid using heater is that it increases the evaporation of the water out of the tanks. If the water is a few degrees higher than the air. You will have condensation problem in the room and possible other places in the house. This can lead to a mold problem and water damage on your window still and cold walls. I had this problem in my apartment in Chicago. It was worst after the landlord replaced the windows that more more air tight. I had moisture everywhere and a mildew problem on the outer walls. If you can heating the room lessen the problem. In the winter the tank would drop an inch daily. You have to change the water more often to prevent mineral buildup from the rapid evaporation.

It is good to have a plan if not a backup heater if your space heater fails for some reason.

Just my 2 cents,
Scott
