According to Huber, the genus Aplocheilichthys is a montypic genus,
including only Aplocheilichthys spilauchen.
Again according to Huber, all other lampeyes that were previously regarded
as belonging to Aplocheilichthys now fall into different genera, mostly
derived from the elevation of previous subgenera to generic level.
Lacustricola is one of those.
So, if you follow Huber on this issue (as most people do now) then what used
to be called Aplocheilichthys maculatus is now called Lacustricola
maculatus.
A good reference for this new classification of the lampeyes is Huber's
Killi-Data.
