[Killietalk] Chloramine and cyclops
Results of my tests with cyclops and chloramine about one week into it:
- control: cup of stock water with cyclops
- very aged tap water
- 5 cups with various water treatments (Aquasafe, Topfin, Dechlor, Prime,
etc) treated at twice the recommended amount
Outcome:
Cyclops are still alive and well in the control cup, as well as the treated
cups. There are no difference between the various water treatments.
Untreated water kills cyclops within 3-4 days.
Notable is the fact that at the end of the week, none of the cups contained
egg-carrying females (I had started with 6 to 10 egg-carrying females in
each cup). During the same time, in my large cyclop container (with oak
leaves, java moss, and driftwood), there has been a reduction in the egg
carrying females. There are still many of them, but not as many as when they
were collected (cyclops concentration measured by my calibrated eyeball).
take care,
