Re: [Killietalk] drilling plastic tanks
I just drilled three more rigid plastic tanks. Actually they are Lustar 2.5
gallon tanks. I used the same jig I use to drill glass tanks that supports the
plastic or glass on both sides. I tried with the Forstner bit with a 1/8 inch
pilot hole and found that it works better without a water flow as lubricant.
It needs to heat up a little to get a smooth hole. So, my technique that seems
to be best was wet the hole but turn off the water. After about half way
through I removed the plastic drill fragments and wet the hole again and continued
until finished. The backing plastic plate has a 3/4 inch hole in it and I
aligned that with the new hole when I checked it at the halfway point. Before
that a 1/4 inch hole was aligned with it.
