Re: [Killietalk] RO Water questions

The problem with drinking a lot of RO or DI water is that it does not
replace electrolytes that may be lost due to perspiration. This is important after
heavy exercise or in hot weather, where one might perspire a lot. Many
years ago I had a friend who got into the habit of drinking DI water after
jogging. One hot Saturday afternoon I got a call from his wife. It seems that he
had just run 5 miles in 85+F temps, and then drank DI water. He became very
weak and disoriented. I told her to give him some Gatorade immediately and
to prepare for a trip to the emergency room if his condition did not improve
with in a few minutes. Fortunately, the Gatorade did the trick, along with a
little table salt, and he recovered rapidly. That ended his infatuation
with distilled water.
