Re: [Killietalk] A. Bitaeniatum (Ijebu-Ode)
It's important to keep in mind that everyone selectively breeds their fish.
It may be conscious or subconscious, but when setting up a breeding pair we
select the "best looking" fish. So each breeder may have a slightly
different strain, especially on older locations that have been around
awhile. This affects body and fin size and shape as well as color.
Environmental conditions affect all of these as well, but I think that's
been talked about.
I would probably keep them seperate and raise a generation from each and see
how the offspring compare to eachother. I would then probably cross a pair
or two of the offspring and see if the world cracks in half. If nothing bad
happens, the offspring from the cross are fertile, grow the way they should,
look like Ijebu Ode and not some two headed beast, I would probably call
them both Ijebu Ode and once again have a good time with my fish, selecting
the ones I think look the best and inadvertantly create my own strain to
confuse someone else with. :)
