Re: [Killietalk] A. Bitaeniatum (Ijebu-Ode)

They are plain bitaeniatum Ijebu-Ode. I'm not saying that this applies to you, but since the subject came up, if a person has reasons to question even that or think that two genuine Ijebu-Ode were crossed, then they are Chrom. (or Aphyosemion - so long as we know what we are talking about) bitaeniatum aquarium strain. There are a lot of gardneri aquarium strains swimming around in the hobby. As a matter of preference, I prefer the Misaje, Jos Plateau and the like, but that is edging up on truth in advertizing if we just "think" they might be...

I have a "green gardneri," whose patents as a matter we purchased as something else. Green gardneri fills that bill. It sure looks like a Nsukka, but it also looks like a Lafia and where I go? Aquarium strain, green gardneri.

On Tim's site was a strain of bitaeniatum which was called multi-color for a time in the '70s. That brings back memories! Someone I knew was attempting to call it yet something else, because it "looked like the photo". Newbie that I was, I asked him why. "Well it has those light tips on the unpaired fins." We really don't want to do that. As many of you know better than I, so much of that image business is dependant upon light, flash angle, distance and maybe even film (not to mention Photoshop) influences how an image looks.

It is ok to label something with the explanation that you received them in good faith "that way." But if your source is clearly wrong (I appreciate Brian Watters explanation of Nothos where the smeared labeling has taken someone down the garden path) or has a reputation for creative labeling, one may have to sigh and go with aquarium strain.

All the best!

shown on Garysfishroom site and the ones shown on Tim Addis's site which were

sell them if I only know they're Ijebu-Ode and from different people and
probably different collecting spots? Thanks, Ed Brandt
