Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk Digest J.Moss and Hydra problems
Couple of previous post mentioned issues w/java moss in high light (algae
et)...yeah you see that same deal w/najas grass under high direct light...
rooted najas grass "sorta" seems more resistant to algae infestation, might
be a corollary; I dunno; but my guess is it's a nutrient uptake competition
thing with the algae...
...I grow java moss in "higher" light intensities (8" under dbl 40's), but I
also have another nutrient greedy plant in the same tank, I got a java moss
driftwood piece going on now for 4yrs, once under dbl & triple flourecent
hoods, no real shading....
The thing is this: there is a synergy/combo thing with growing aquatic
plants; some like each other, some don't; same deal as you see in
terrestrial gardening (anacharis/hornwort "Wars" being a classic example)
Granted you likely won't read that in any pub by any accredited author, but
It seems pretty darn empericallistacally true (I just made that word up
<LOL>)

I have been unable to grow Java Moss in recent years. ....I once thought I
knew all I needed to know about culturing Java Moss but for now, it is a
mystery without any clues.
No one can help me. ..... absolutely perfect lab techniques to prevent their
reintroduction to the nuked tanks. This is not the kind of fish breeding I
like to practice. A more natural and organic aquarium ecosystem is more
pleasing and noormally more productive for me. The growing plants help
maintain water quality, usually help provide early food organisms for newly
hatched fry. ...
