My water here in Nanaimo (on Vancouver Island) comes from resevoirs fed by
mountain streams and is incredibly soft and pure. Typically, the TDS is in
the range 20-25 ppm. According to the city water department records
(available online for the last 5 years or so) the pH is quite constant at
7.7 - 7.8.
Since my main interest is in Nothos, I have had to treat the water to
increase theTDS and the buffering capacity but I have been able to sort that
out fairly easily and my Nothos do well. I have also started keeping a few
Aphyosemions again, to take advantage of the soft water.
