Heat water is a complicated issue. The hot water may dissolve metals. The one that most are worry about is lead. It is recommended for cooking to heat up cold water since there is still dissolved metals. Also in older home the pipes have a lining of calcium deposits. Most cities add caldium to the water to cause the layer to form. In old pipes this seals the lead out of the water in theory.
Have you ever noticed that on Washing machines the hot water hoses leaks first? This is because the hot water makes the metal rust faster and or dissolves until it starts to leak.
