Re: [Killietalk] R.O.

Don't drink the hot water from the hot water heater. Although it may
not exceed the government guidelines for metals, least we would have
heard about it ad nauseam. I wouldn't trust it. Hot water leaches
metals much faster than cold. If you live in an older home you probably
have copper pipes that are soldered together. Solder is an alloy of tin
and lead. If your home is newer you probably have plastic pipes, but
the heater itself has a steel tank with parts soldered to it. At my
house we do not use hot water for cooking or drinking. Both of those
come out the cold tap. This may be paranoia, but why take the chance?

Also, chlorine will evaporate out of hot water faster then cold. But
your water heater is sealed, no evaporation takes place. If it did
every time you turned on the hot water tap you would get a bubble of
chlorine gas out before the water.

But then what do I know. I am a rocket scientist not a chemist.

Hi Lee, Why wouldn't you use some of the water in the "heated and
insulated tank of water". Unless chlorinated cold water(the feed to a
hot water heater) undergoes a deadly chemical change when heated; I
can't
see the harm of using the hot water from a hot water heater. Remember we
as humans drink both of these waters. I always assumed the water from a
hot water heater became de chlorinated and pasteurized in the process of
heating. My assumptions are hardly ever "right on", however.
Sincerely,
Fred
