[Killietalk] Research request

I received the following request from a CA based scientist:

<<I am a biology professor at the University of
California in Riverside. My current research project is on the evolution
of variations on the theme of livebearing in the fish family
Poeciliidae. As part of this project I and my colleagues are constructing
a DNA-based phylogenetic tree of the Poeciliids and their likely close
relatives from the order Cyprinodontiformes, which includes all of the
killifish. I am trying to find specimens from three South American genera
and wonder if there is anyone affiliated with your organization who might
be able to help. I could use either a live fish or a fish that was
preserved in alcochol, but not one that was preserved in formalin. The fish
that I need are any in the genera Orestias, Valencia or Fluviphylax. I
would be happy to pay for these fish. It would help a great deal to have
any information that is available about their origin and to get a mature
male and female so that I could confirm their identification. It would be
great to get them as soon as possible because I have a graduate student and
a post-doc on the payroll for the summer.
I keep large stocks of poeciliids and would be happy to give some away to
any members who are interested in them. I have around half of the genus
Poeciliopsis, four species of Limia, three of Neoheterandria, and a few
others available in surplus.
If you are not aware of anyone who has access to these fish but know of
directories that my request can be forwarded to, then please advise me
about them. >>

If anyone who reads this list can help, e-mail me off-list and I'll hook
you up with him.
