Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk Digest, Vol 39, Issue 7
First, let me point out that killietalk is open to anyone who wishes to
sign up. Why have to sign up, you ask? Because the list would quickly be
overwhelmed by spam if you didn't. Incidentally, killietalk is not on
the same server as the AKA web site and, administratively, is completely
separate from it.
Personally I have never had a message to killietalk bounce and I have
not had any members complain about it, until this one. If yours are
bouncing it is much more likely to be something on your own system,
perhaps outgoing filters put in place by your ISP, than something on the
killietalk server. If your bounce problem persists, send one of the
bounce messages, with full headers, to Ken Simolo, the list moderator.
He will try to work out the problem with the individual who administers
our server.
Finally, I don't think the majority of members would agree with you when
you say that everything on the AKA site (which is what I assume you are
talking about) should be open to everyone. A relatively small proportion
of the information is restricted, but such things as voting etc. should
be. Yes, you are required to log on to post messages in the forums, etc.
Again, that is a necessity to prevent spam. Sorry, but that's the
electronic world we live in. You do not have to be an AKA member to take
advantage of the majority of the content on the site. In my opinion it
is inaccurate to state that the site is exclusionary.

I and many other AKA members per personal communications feel that the main official AKA site has become very exclusionary. This problem is pervasive enough that some changes need to be made so less advanced computer users are not left out of the club. This digital AKA is leaving a lot of people out even if they have internet access. The security features are too stringent to allow many ordinary killie keepers to "enjoy" our membership fully. It has become a more and more elite cadre of members who can benefit from our membership.
