[Killietalk] Moving fish rooms
I have done the short moves. If you only have small tanks. Buy a small number of tanks. Set up in section and move the fish directly from one location. 5 or 10 a time. If you have a long time like a months you can use you changing water to set up the moved tanks. Also sponge filters are the easiest to move just throw them in a bucket and set up in the new tanks with dechlorinated water. Two liter pop bottles are great.
If you are making a long move it is easier to buy new tanks than rent a large van and move the tanks. I did a move from Chicago to Baton Rouge. If I had to do it again. I would have sold the large tanks and just keep the stands. It costs thousands to drive four trips to move two 30s, two 55, three 20, 15 tens, 5 fives and some other tanks. I move my community fish in 30 gallon plastics tubs with battery air pumps. I put the plants and fish in the tubs. The bacteria was alive to cycle the tanks. I broke 2 twenty-nines and 4 tens. I could have cut at least two trips out and remember last summer when gas prices suddenly shot up. I could have sold the tanks for a modest price and brought new much cheaper. If I found some used tanks locally it would have been even better.

Scott
