Re: [Killietalk] F&E listing
First--Ken sit back and relax, this message is fish related. Both sides have some valid points and bears some discussion. Except for personal attacks like below--is Ed Brandt getting the same warning other people have on here in the past?--his post had nothing to do with fish.
Monty is someone I hold in high regard, he has come to our annual show was very generous with his fish. It's too bad certain clubs didn't appreciate a gesture when he sent them fish in the past . But I sent some to TAKO this year(unfortanately don't have Monty's production skills), Doug Ebeling thanked our group here on Killietalk--and Craig Rees sent me a thank you last year when sent some to his show(Sorry Craig no extras this year). Both clubs sent me a check in a timely manner. Karl didn't ask for anything for free, just some fish going to support a grass roots level show. It is Monty's right to sell/send/give fish to who he chooses, I choose to sell the few pairs I produce each year to affiliate clubs. I agree with Curt Smith's assessment on the 3 tiers of members in the AKA. If you think you will make a fortune raising/selling killies, see how many millionaires are in AKA who made it selling killies. At best you get some cost recovery--unless Fred Behrmann ha!
s milli
ons in a Swiss bank nobody knows about --look at all the marketing he has done outside the AKA.
I get sick of people beating up on Erny, his motivation is to get people to think about what they are in this for, like everybody else sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. He brings up many valid points at times that should be considered.
A few years ago when I was new to the killie show scene I really wanted some dwarf red gularis. I checked locally nobody had them in our club, called a couple of out area people, they gave me the name of a guy in Milwaukee area who had them and his number. I called him, introduced myself, asked him what he wanted for them. He said just remember me some day when you have something interesting going--he sent me fish for free, did not ask for a box back or even postage. That guy was Erny May.
His gesture is one of the reasons I joined the AKA, and become as involved as I am today, and work to put on largest sanctioned show in the US put on by a general aquarium society. There is a lot of history in our show which long predates me- - for me it is about the fish AND the people, and why I work to make it enjoyable for everyone.
