[Killietalk] Fwd: real Test!

Bobby, Thanks for the thumbs up! As you've noticed, contrary to my claim
that I would not post again to Killietalk (as I told you) as a result of my
being rudely insulted by that unprofessional person from South Africa who shall
remain nameless here, I could not restrain myself from doing so. The engaging
combination of topics on both this species and the history of it has precluded
any reluctance I've had up until now.

Apparently Scheel based his info on Arnold's 1913 holotype, and rightly so.
The Aphyosemion australe as we know it was described by Rachow from Milewski's
1915 strain, as yes, just a different population.

Glad to see you'll finally be moving in to your new apartment. I presume its
in the location you previously mentioned to me. In this case I'll be looking
forward to seeing you at MAKA (9/27); be prepared to house fish as September
is the large annual fish auction. Lennie M. will be bringing in several boxes
for the event. If you don't have wheels, let me know -- You could take the
7:47PM train to arrive at Lyndhurst (Kingsland) at 8:01PM where I could pick
you up (meetings start at 8:30PM). The returns leave at 10:47PM and 11:46PM,
depending when the meeting is over.

A. australe can be somewhat variable as to its ease of spawning, as I've seen
it, with some hobbyists claiming it to be very easy and yet others saying it
can be troublesome. My best results were had as a group in a heavily planted
15 gallon species tank. Perhaps any slight difficulties with them makes them
all the more rewarding. If you're looking for less time involved right mow,
with picking eggs, etc., this may be the way to go, even if you may not get
maximum production.

You might consider those quick-assemble utility racks (grey-painted) that are
available in Home Depot for holding your set-up as you get going, but some of
them may not handle 20's although if you fill them only half-way your only
talking about 83 pounds. I believe they make heavy duty racks (shelving).

On the tanks, it too bad you didn't ask a bit sooner; Petco had a nation-wide
sale last week on tanks up to 55 gallons at $1 per gallon. Anyway, While I
usually don't recommend the chain stores, you might try Pet Land Discount in
Lttle Ferry (right off Rt. 46 -- old Valley Fair Bldg) or further out, there's
a WalMart on Rt. 46 in Saddle Brook (call first to check if they have a fish
dep't.).

As for my notation above, I still don't understand the administration's lack
of concern or action on verbal abuse matters, even when I spelled it out in
the annual survey, but that's another story. Catch me off-line if you need help
getting to the meeting. Ray Wetzel #08273
