Hi Mark, I'm glad it was Big John who answered you because he gave you
the straight dope. The way around it as I see it is to bring your
shipping supplies with you and box up your purchases while in Canada,
sending them from there and putting on the customs permits required by
the US. Make sure you claim: no commercial value, $00, biological samples
OR gift. This is what I have done to ship the other way but I see no
reason it can't work in reverse. When the Montreal club came into the US
for a UNYKA meeting( Tom Grady, Malone,NY) once about 5 years ago they
had to bring down their killies in pairs, each in household jars( cleaned
,empty, peanut butter jars and such) to show our border crossing guards
how un commercial (hobbist) it all was. It worked well coming into the US
but we don't know how it was going back. This was before the Twin Towers
of Manhattan, NY went down.
