That might allow for a slightly higher placement of the hole due to less
height above the hole, but the water will still drain to the lowest point
of the horizontal outflow pipe. With an elbow pointed up, the water level
will drain only to the lowest point of the rim of the opening of the
elbow.
Gosh, that's hard to describe, but hopefully clear enough. Once the height
of the hole is established, it determines the water level and is pretty
much non-adjustable if you use a tee. Using an albow allows some
adjustment of the water level.
