"aff." or "affinis" is not simply an abbreviation for "looks like". The
following definition comes from the excellent online Dictionary of
Ichthyology by Coad and McAllister:

affinis = related to but not identical with, affinity, relationship,
sometimes misleadingly employed as a synonym for phenetic similarity (or
akin to).
