Re: [Killietalk] daphnia eggs

Some years back, while living in Virgina, I decided to see if I could store
daphnia in the freezer over the winter and then defrost into a living culture
in the Spring. I collected culture samples (total about 12 ounces of liquid
and "black peper-like specks from the surface) from both the top and bottom of
the active daphnia tub and placed in the freezer for 5 months. In the Spring,
I took the frozen culture and placed it outside in a plastic shoebox. In about
3-4 days the frozen culture "hatched" and I had a new thriving culture which
started my Spring collection. I'm not sure if this is the type of information
we were seeking but that is my experience with regenerating daphnia in the
future.
