Re: [Killietalk] Mixing Corys with betta juvies

Had a pair of spawning paleatus in a 10-gallon tank. Faced with the even-common problem of where to keep fish, I also had some hornwort and Epiplatys in there. When the Corys spawned, all adult fish were removed. Actually did a better job of raising the Epiplatys than the Cory fry.

Lonnie mentioned keeping small Corys with king's tetras. I had a tank of those (just a 10). Somewhat like in a killie tank, a tetra would die (hopefully of old age) and a fry would grow up to replace it. There was a modest equilibrium kept that way for some years. Saw a well planted 125 which started with a few king's tetras and in not too long a time had schools of those things all over. Corys and many other catfish are so fond of eggs that might not have happened with them in there.

Also, watch the interaction with killies and small Corys. The fact that you are raising them up together means that they will probably be even more tolerant of one another. That one exception may exist. There was a female A. pascheni who was as brutal with small Corys as she was with her male. Go figure!

All the best!
