Re: [Killietalk] trip

Hi Tim,
Surely, I would contribute to fund, as well as I did for George Mayers. I´m not sure how to handle it properly but another option to contribute, that occurred me, is to use some frequent flyer credits (e.g, I´ve some credits at American Airline Advantage program). Let me know how much credits would he need and maybe I can provide some of them.
As Bill commented later, collecting trips is a dream I´ve and I´m planing, soon, to apply to join with any group who would accept me as a rookie in this field experiences.
Best wishes,

Carlos Gomes

Subject: [Killietalk] trip

Funding collecting trips is a difficult area. A freind is taking on a pretty
arduous trip to Colombia in a few weeks. He's never had any money in the 20
years I've known him but is putting his life savings into the trip. The
catch is when he comes back he will be jobless & broke. Not a good state to
be in so we had a chat to find out ways of funding his trip & return
finances.
Many bizarre topics were worked through until we hit on a topic we hadn't
thought about before.
In this age of technology & reality television programmes why not a website
where you can see regular updates of information & photos?
Of course this would have to be pay to view but I'm trying to guage what
response it would have.
I can say that the area of collection would mean a plane trip from the
International airport to a place where a canoe trip lasting 2 days would
take him to a remote place where we have had Rivulus in the past.
Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned a valley in Colombia where the drug
barons had been driven out of? This area has been collected in by locals &
Brits in the area now. The US agencies put up that this area is dangerous.
Our Brit scout has now found many new (or at least new fish to him) fish.
Bringing them back is not easy from this remote area so the collector is
taking spawning mops to send eggs back where possible.
We have descriptions of some very interesting fish in this area.
This valley is completely new to fish collectors & holds great promise.
We have the means to take photos & send back from a base to my computer.
Also text of the meaning of the photos & a dialogue of the trip as it
happens.

My question is - would anyone pay to subscribe to this site to help fund the
trip?
I would add that I have no financial connection to this - merely trying to
help a freind out.
It's really sad that new imports come down to money but it costs a huge
amount of money to collect from remote areas now.
The trip will last at least 4-7 weeks & will take in remote collection areas
& commercial shipper sites.

Obviously those subscribing would be the first to get eggs.

       All the best... Tim
