Re: [Killietalk] (no subject)
Hello Rob,
JAKA is a "quasi" professional scientific journal dedicated to all
aspects of killifish or egg-laying toothcarps (order
Cyprinodontiformes). As such, It is appropriate to give constructive
criticism on articles published therein. If I were to criticize the
"Two Killifish Fry" article it would be that I would want to see ,in
the first few paragraphs, that the students had "dipped a toe" in
the published literature. There is a very robust scientific
literature concerning factors affecting sex ratios in fishes.
Results vary, but there are significant results that indicate that
polluted waters can skew ratios heavily toward males, for instance.
As to killi enjoyment and education, I would recommend joining a
local chapter and becoming an active member. Never did I enjoy
"killiworld" more than when I was able to attend meetings for a brief
period at CKA. That environment is far superior to this Killitalk,
that , to me, resembles a gang plank to aggravation far too often.
