Re: [Killietalk] BOT minutes
Dear Jim,
There is no provision in the BOT Operating Manual that I can find that
prohibits the distribution of the BOT minutes to the membership. Whether
Killitalk is a good place to do it is open to considerable and heated debate on
both sides. Some people feel that a Forum space should be set up on the AKA
website to accommodate this business. Condensed minutes seem to make it into
the BNL on a somewhat regular basis if the person who compiles the BNL receives
it in time for printing. But the information disclosed never says what the
votes were for and against and who voted which way. I believe the BNL compiler
does a great job under often very difficult circumstances and have never once
envied that job.
Jim and any other members, if you PM me, I will do my best to keep you in the
loop as far as what my perspective of what's going on with Board business as I
see it. I can not and do not speak for the entire Board at any time. There
are no secrets with me and I believe many of the Trustees feel the same way.
If I had my choice the general membership would have a more active voice before
the BOT decides on matters but we really don't have a path to do that at this
time and it would take a shift in thinking before that might happen.
I remember this issue of involvement and communication arose while my friend
Joe S. was on the BOT and I questioned why we should have to go individually to
him rather than the the Board disclosing the business to the general
membership. I have wished that I had asked my question in a less direct and
personal way and avoided what may have seemed an attack on him. I was wrong
for the way I did it.
I believe the tide is moving in the direction of greater transparency of Board
business and more interest by the members about issues that matter to them, for
example, New and Rare. I encourage all members to keep asking the great
questions and helping us continue to on our mission to be the number stop for
all things Killifish.
