[Killietalk] Fishroom Lighting

I have been having questions about the same
thing. Need to have lighting for myself to be
able o see the sink, the worms, the fruit fly
cultures, and other live foods I've got for the
fish then be able to clean filters and tanks, so
I need to have lighting for myself. On the other
hand, that much lighting would be enough light to
put algae in all the tanks and force me to use
rooted plans to use up all of the energy just to
keep the algae from taking over. I've opted for
these 18" under the counter kitchen lights for
most of the fish tanks in my fish room so I've
gotta move em from place to place, tank to tank,
to see what's going on inside the tanks and have
installed a few 24" T 12 lights permanently above
some 10's and 20's and have to be careful of the
algae/rooted plants to take care of the extra
light and so I've mixed things up quite a bit and
at the same time trying to balance the light for
the fish, the light for the plants, and work
lights for myself against the heat that develops
from the lights inside the room. My room is 16 x
18, no outside lighting.

I have found that the newer T-8, 32 watt lights
give considerably more light with less heat than
the same size 40 watt T-12 lamps. I've got some
more tanks to set up and I'm really not sure
whether I should go with the individual lights or
light the room indirectly.

Wife says she doesn't like walking into the room
and looking at the tanks and not being able to
see anything but the light in the room. The tank
fronts just reflect the light from the indirect
lighting. So you got some more ideas, group? I'd
like to hear them too.
