Re: [Killietalk] Power filter help - sponge filters
On non-planted tanks, I use the double cylindrical sponge filters
(Brilliant?) on 30 gallon tanks and below. To "cycle" a new tank, I
take one of the sponges from an existing tank or use the "squeezings"
from one of the sponges. Instant cycling and the only electricity
used for filtration is the one linear pump. If heavily planted,
filters are not even necessary, even on larger tanks such as my 55
and 75 gallon tanks, although water movement may be beneficial.
