Re: [Killietalk] Power filter help
I am also a big fan of the Marineland Penguin and Emperor lines with the biowheels. I've gotten away from the whispers and use only the Marineland units on my large tanks. Many a time I have let water evaporate away and the impeller stays just wet enough to keep the unit from melting together and seizing. I will also swap biowheels from established tanks to new set-ups to get "instant established tanks".

I gave up on Whispers and now buy the marineland (and WalMart - same item)
BioWheel filters. They seem to last forever and don't give me worn impeller
problems. The water container compartment for the impeller retains water
even when the siphon quits, so it stays wet while running and shooting
blanks. The BioWheel by the way is a rotating biological contactor, proven
in the wastewater industry, and offers aerobic and highly effective
biological filtration. I like these units and have them in several sizes.
