[Killietalk] Power filter help

I have several different power filters I use on larger (29-100 gallon) tanks. 
They are mostly Whisper 2 , 3 type. I have them on 8 tanks.  Periodically the 
impellers fail -- the magnet and plastic assembly rotates freely instead of 
the rather flimsy connection to the impeller. I have no idea why they design 
them this way except to make money on the replacement impellers.  I am getting 
tired of spending $5-6 for replacement impellers. Has anyone fixed these things 
by gluing or other home made repair? Or, should I just throw out these 
filters and replace them? If so, what do other people like?
