Re: [Killietalk] water changes for daphnia (was: Green water)
Hello Doug!
I remove my daphnia or moina from their tanks with a hose, removing water at
the same time and add a little tank water from my recirc system to top the
culture off. This seems to be frequent enough to keep the water fresh and
has worked for a wile for me.
I feed my daphnia green water when I can. This is based on some info found
in the "Plankton Culture Manual" by Hoff/Snell. This book suggest that the
over-all nutrition of the moina is far greater after being fed algae/green
water.

Also I am sure a change of water would have
great preventative potential.

I've historically done relatively few water changes on my daphnia
containers, mostly because I haven't wanted to inadvertently toss out
bunches of the teeniest ones I can't even see.
Is there a better method for reducing such losses than pouring all the
out-going water through a BBS net and returning the solids to the daphnia
container ?
