I am repeating some information I posted a few weeks ago, but it may have 
been missed in other discussions. I recently had a problem with my australe 
getting any eggs. After a lot of collecting of eggs 3 or 4 times a day and getting 
quite a few from some pairs, I discovered the eggs were disintegrating while 
incubating due to the presence of some microscopic worms that were attacking 
the eggs. I eliminated the problem by storing the eggs in fresh tap water 
containing chlorine. Changing to dechlorinated water after a few days was necessary 
to prevent the chlorine from attacking the fry when they hatched.
