I am repeating some information I posted a few weeks ago, but it may have
been missed in other discussions. I recently had a problem with my australe
getting any eggs. After a lot of collecting of eggs 3 or 4 times a day and getting
quite a few from some pairs, I discovered the eggs were disintegrating while
incubating due to the presence of some microscopic worms that were attacking
the eggs. I eliminated the problem by storing the eggs in fresh tap water
containing chlorine. Changing to dechlorinated water after a few days was necessary
to prevent the chlorine from attacking the fry when they hatched.
