Re: [Killietalk] cyanobacteria

Hello All.

Sorry Jim, Big John is correct in that gtt is drops. SO to clarify 3
drops/ gallon every 12 hours.

I would like to add that it is also important to use Fresh Hydrogen
peroxide. The stuff runs about 50 cents a bottle. It is fairly unstable so
replacing it from time to time is a good idea.

There are a million and one uses for the stuff in the fishroom. Including
sterilization. I like to use it to sterilize spawning mops instead of
boiling or bleach. The waste products are water and oxygen. So no NASTY
chlorine to deal with.

For those with plastic plants It will oxidize the algae right off of the
plastic leaves too. Uncut though.

PLEASE do not get the industrial strength hydrogen peroxide. I think it was
Pat hartman that accidentally got his 30% bottles mixed up and totally fried
a tank of livebearers. He brought it home from work or something of the
sort. Plus that 30% solution can be down right dangerous to you let alone
the fish.

I have to second or third the Daphnia and greenwater. OD the tank on
daphnia and it should be cleared in just a couple of days. Plus the
resident fishies will get a belly full.

Oddly enough let it stay in there and see what your fishes do. I have found
some extremely fast growing conditions in greenwater. Also color tends to
be enhanced. Not sure as too why. COuld just be the fact that you put
in a 2 inch blue gularis and the next time you are actually able to see the
fish he is 8 inches. WHo Knows!

Great food for baby rainbowfish too. Just place a mop full of eggs in 2.5
gallon with a trickle of air and you will have fry everywhere. It is also
good for Ples. lacerdai too.

Oh back to Cyanobacteria, My Mom is deathly allergic to the stuff. If we
allowed it to be in the open air she would begin wheezing from the algae
fumes. So be careful. I even noticed some itching on my arms when
cleaning out tanks just full of the algae. So you can have allergies to
it. I think that Bob was kinda leading us that way so I hope that was of
some use to you.

God Bless, Lee <><
