Re: [Killietalk] list problems

ravovii eggs I bought several weeks ago, I'm listening.

I can share with you what I do with the N. rachovii eggs I incubate.
First I take the peat out of the bag and spread it out gently onto a white
piece of paper. I gently comb through it with a magnifying glass looking for
small, light yellow/brown eggs. If the eggs are fresh you won't see any
development. The reason I do this is that I don't want to have expectations
for fry if I don't see eggs and this has happended a lot. Whether I see eggs
or not I rebag the peat and with N. rachovii, I wait between 5 and 6 months,
usually 6 months from the time the eggs were originally bagged to wet them.
Before I wet them I spread them out again on paper and with a magnifying glass
look for the developed eyes in the eggs. I usually don't wet the peat until I
see the eyes developed. PM me if you have additional questions and I will try
to answer.

I have no opinion about whether the website is easy or difficult to use. I
have been using it for years and am somewhat familiar. I am watching closely
the number of posts to the forum, the dates and the activity level.
HOWEVER I do pay attention when anyone says they find the site difficult. And
I take them at their word.

I was fortunate to have a few mentors when I started raising killies and I was
so close to giving up when a member unknowingly passed along the keys to the
kingdom. I have never looked back. It's difficult for me to picture what my
life would have looked like without killifish. I have spent a lot of time and
a lot of money but I have received much more in return.

Finally, in my experience, there is no substitute for a good mentor.
