Re: [Killietalk] list problems
I too am a newbie and I also found a lack of newbie information.
I did find the article you are speaking of and I did note the shortage of
links but thats manageable. I'm wondering tho, shouldn't a beginners guide
include photos of the fish its recommending? That was one of the biggest
problems I had. I found myself going to aquabid to see pictures even tho I
know pictures there are often doctored. When that didn't turn up the fish I
was looking for I ended up using this site:
http://www.killifish.f9.co.uk/Killifish/Killifish%20Website/Genera_Index.htm
. On that site, I found information specific to each fish including
breeding notes as well as photos of each fish. This combination led to me
doing a LOT of research on their site. On the AKA site, you have to leave
the beginners guide, go to the gallery and maybe you'll find a photo of the
fish... but then there is no specific information about that fish listed. I
still don't know if there is anywhere on the site that gives fish specific
information. The site looks incredible imo. Just the information I kept
trying to find was either not there, not accessable to the public or there
in such a way that I couldn't find it.
So I joined AKA in hopes of finding some secret treasure of information ;)
The booklets that I received are excellent and I was very impressed by how
professional they are. It would be wonderful to see the difficulty level
charts from the back of the beginners guide available on the website
(including the pictures) to the general public.
One other thing worth mentioning... I joined this list right in the middle
of apparantly a bad time. Some poor guy was getting flamed left and right
for asking questions. Someone else kept complaining about posts... I dont
remember the exact words but the complaint combined with the flaming of that
person left me with the feeling that I just shouldn't say anything on this
list at all unless I was a seasoned keeper - which I'm not. So instead of
digging in and becoming involved, I chose to sit on the sidelines and watch
for a while. I'm still watching and gleaning bits of knowledge from posts
when I can. I would however like to thank Tony Terceira for supplying me
with my first beautiful killies and having the patience to answer my
questions about them without making me feel inferior for having asked them.
So, I left the sidelines for a minute to try to be helpful... I hope that I
don't regret it.
