[Killietalk] AKA, Convention and Shows - Relevant or not ?

Again, the reason I'm posting here is, because I think this definitely is an important
topic and ANYONE viewing could add some well thought out input.
Now to restate a bit on the forums, they have they're good points, but when it
SEEMS benifical for any and all to chime in, as of now, subject to change, this I think
  is most appropriate.
Now on to the regularly scheduled topic -

In the day before the Internet, etc. there where few places to obtain killies. Since
then changes have occured, good or bad, I suppose that depends on your viewpoint.
When I think of attending a "get together" it boiled down to 3 things -
     1) The "PEOPLE", having a good time with old and leading others down the path
to debauchery. And despite the rumor, we didn't have ANYTHING to do with
them tearing down the mall in South Bend, IN after the show !!!

     2) The fish. As some would like to think, it's ALL about the fish. Well, if that was
the case, in this day and age you don't need a show to get the fish. The fish
just gave us justification for "others" we weren't truely lunatics.

     3) Ah the speakers, yep you can't forget those. Various topics, alot of "Brown dirt
and puddles", marked by massive jungles or absolutely desolate "pampas"
areas. In any case, also a time to set your arss down and relax.

In not adapting to the changes, coming in the mid 80's to now, we find ourselves
talking of the "declining hobby" or whatever. The focus SEEMS to be the shows &
Convention. Like the BKA logo, you have the 3 sides equal to the 3 points above,
basically access to fish now makes attending the show obscure to a point, a big
point. WHY would a person want to spend from $300-over $1000 over a weekend
and hasn't even BOUGHT a fish yet ! If I'm Joe Moroninski in Podunk, SD. I'm
thinking, "What am I getting for my money?" If you don't look at what you get for
your money, please, I want your name, I've got tons of stuff to sell ya!

The hobby, the fish, they'll probably keep going for along time. But if we don't
add or change the preceived value beyond the fish, well last one out ... and the gas
IS having an effect. Between the 80's and now, the cost is nearly 4 times being
almost $120 for a 6hr venture. Which, as we are all aging, my tolerance of driving is
  diminishing.

Ok, well I do not want to follow the Novel writting of some, but I think it's a main
item, and unfortunately the ONLY suggestion I have it similar to what GCKA &
the "other" CKA does or did, and thats have clubs organize to switch every other year.
And as Jim stated, clubs will do as they want, and I think it'll take some major doing
to get some to "give up" what I believe to be some egotistical presense in the hobby,
for the good of others. If thing keep going as they are, you'll have a "Consortium" or
"Dead Bodies". I'm just thinking, this is looking the the "Killie Cartel" / OPEC. Get
all the club leaders together and determine the outcome.
