Re: [Killietalk] Fruit fly problems

I used a homemade mix and I also used the "blue" commercial mix from Carolina. I used paper towel/rubberband to cover the container. The fly production would double if you add a touch of inactive yeast (bulkfood.com) and add a bit of brown sugar to culture.

  Hi,

Talk to Robert Nhan in Fremont. Last I knew he was raising humungous
quantities to feed his poison dart frogs. As I recall, he had big
cardboard cartons full of plastic-coated paper drink cups, covered with
a single thickness of paper towel, held with a rubber band. I don't
recall that he ever tried to get them to last very long, replacing any
that dropped in productivity, and starting over. I think maybe he made
his own food mix, but he may have used an anti-fungal from Carolina
Biological to keep it longer, IDK.

Always check with Robert, for my memory is a great way to be misled. :-)
