I used a homemade mix and I also used the "blue" commercial mix from Carolina. I used paper towel/rubberband to cover the container. The fly production would double if you add a touch of inactive yeast (bulkfood.com) and add a bit of brown sugar to culture.

cardboard cartons full of plastic-coated paper drink cups, covered with
