It's a "mother-in-law factor" that has nothing to do with the amount of 
electricity the pump uses.  IMHO

I am running 11 aquariums, 7 to 75 gal, all have external filters and lights 
on timers.  My electric bill for my whole house is never $150 for any month. 
  It was never $150 when I was running 50 aquariums and was foolish enough 
to have heaters in most of them.  It got close with all those heathers 
though.....
