Most pumps are rated in amps.  This is usually marked on a plate somewhere
on the pump, check on the bottom.  If you assume 110 volt house current than
the conversion is:
amps * 110 volts = watts
so a 1 amp pump *110 volts = 110 watts

If you have heaters in the tanks, these probably use more energy than the
air pump.

You can calculate the electrical usage of all your aquarium equipment,
convert them into watt hours, then kilowatt hours and get the rate from the
electrical company to see exacty how much your aquarium electrical usage
costs.

For example I burn a 100 watt light bulb over my brine shrimp hatcheries
constantly so:
100w x 24 hours x 30 days = 72,000 watts per month = 72.0 kWh / month
I paid about 14 cents per KWH in February so $ 0.14 * 72.0 kWh = $10.08 per
month

Hi all
I have what is the equivelent to a whisper 900 curently running in my
fish room taking care of nine small tanks.
Me and the wife are having a slightly heated discusion on electric usage
I say it uses less electric than let say a 100 watt light bulb a month
my mother in law aka landlord thinks it justified in raising are rent
150 more a month because of electric usage. I have a linear pump I will
be hooking up in a couple weeks.
