[Killietalk] Harbinger of spring - Friday and two weeks from now in Chicago
A couple of Chicago Killifish Association events are
coming up. We really hope they are of interest to all
killienuts within driving (or if you prefer, flying)
distance.
This Friday, March 10, at 7:30 (more or less) we
will meet at the College of DuPage, Room 128 in the
Open Campus Center, which is in the Northwest corner
of the campus. For more on the direction front, see
http://www.aka.org/chika/
The program is on material probably more familiar to
Aquatic gardeners than to killinuts. Robert Steinback,
biology teacher from Elgin C.C., will do a
presentation
on "Growing beautiful aquatic plants." His talk will
emphasize the minerals needed to grow great plants.
The CKA meetings also feature a mini-auction where
100% of the proceeds go to the seller. Usually there
are 25-50 bags of killies (with a minimum bid), food
cultures and the usual "killie plants." Prices are
modest, as they are at most aquarium club meetings,
but one can't beat the split. :)
It is a nice way for fish-heads to finish the
workweek and begin the weekend.
In two weeks, March 25 and 26, we are also having our
28th, usually annual show. It will be held at the
Downers Grove Holiday Inn Express on Butterfield Rd.
Actually that is just west of I-355, south of
Butterfield Rd, on Finley Rd. (See the map on the
flyer.)
Guest speakers will include Dave Franco, relating his
experiences collecting South American Annuals last
year and sharing how to care for them.
We are also privileged to have Terry Fairfield, author
of Barron's, A Commonsense Guide to Fish Health.
Terry just captivated the club last September (a 40
minute program and a longer, very interesting Q & A
session) and there was a lot of interest in inviting
him back.
Those two guys will also hold a round table
discussion, probably on bringing 'em back alive and
whatever else we ask them. And you can't beat the
price of admission.
For a flyer on the show, again please take a look
again at

That is a very long web page. ;)
Thanks and all the best!
Scott
