[Killietalk] Upgraded web site

Hi all,

Just to let you know that we have upgraded the AKA web site and it is
back on line. There are still a couple of small adjustments to make, but
overall it appears to be working OK.

The site will look much the same to you. This was essentially an upgrade
of the Content Management System that we use, but in doing so Dennis and
I decided we would completely rebuild the site using some new modules
that had become available since the "old" site was set up. Much of the
change is behind the scenes, which will help us with maintenance but
will not be obvious to most of you.

You will notice that the Calendar module is different. The new module is
much more stable than the old one but has one limitation from your point
of view. That is that it doesn't support repeating events. Those of you
who enter club events, etc. will have to enter them for each occasion. I
apologize for this minor inconvenience. Hopefully a future version of
this module will add support for repeating events.

Forums are updated to a new version which I think is considerably better
than the old. All the old posts are retained.

If you want to make changes to your own profile you can use the link to
User Profiles, in the main menu at the left, or you can continue to use
the Manage Profiles link at the top. The page that comes up looks a bit
different, but what you need to do to edit and so on is obvious. The
user profiles is an area in which the new CMS version changed significantly.

You'll note that there is a link to Private Messaging. Don't confuse
that with Private Massaging. The AKA doesn't provide that :-P . Private
Messaging allows you to send a message to another member via the web
site. They would see it in their In Box, under User Menu, when they log
into the site.

You'll also notice a block on the left for Donations to the Maier
Research Fund. We are hoping that this increase in visibility will
remind members of this program and encourage more donations. Note that
my name appears twice. There are two because these are test donations to
make sure the feedback to show donations and target amount remaining was
working.

So, if you find any glitches, please let me know. We hope you continue
to enjoy the site.
