I agree with Barry that it's probably some kind of ciliated protozoan. I 
have a tank like that right now, although I haven't taken a sample to view 
under the microscope. Nonetheless, I've seen this before, and that's what it 
usually is. I wouldl think they would be a good food for small fry, as they 
are microworm sized and throughout the water column. Might also be worth 
culturing.
