I think the key is a balance between feeding too much and how much water you 
can physically change and how often. If the regime for changing water is more 
than you can keep up with, just feed less. I usually feed my fish once a day 
and only as much as they can eat within 5 minutes, unless it is a live food 
such as daphnia or larvae. That is in combination with automatic semi continuous 
water changing. The biggest mistake you can make with any aquarium fish is 
overfeeding. These microscopic or close to microscopic organisms are always 
there, but only flourish if you feed too much.
