Re: [Killietalk] The Armagosa River in two days...

Hi Scott

I'm sure the hornwort could be there naturally. There are many aquatic
species that have been able to survive there with out the help of humans.
Hornwort seems to have one of the most cosmopolitan distributions of any
aquatic plant. Come to think of it I'm surprised not to find duck week in
system.

Dave Koran - can you elaborate on the water chemistry of Salt creek or Ash
meadows?

Thank you for the tour of Death Valley David. Also, thank you for the
explanation of the Devil's hole dilemma.

to see hornwort in this pool but it's native by range but I'm wondering if
it made it's way there by an aquarist.

One wonders about that and the range of stupid and uninformed things people
do is amazing. That would be modest in comparison to some things.

However, Al Castro, in a program on pupfish at an AKA convention years ago,
noted that hornwort exists in the Salt Creek. He was impressed with that
because of the mineral content of that creek. Is the creek near enough that
a bit of hornwort could have caught on and been carried to that spring by a
bird, varmint, or tourist?

Speaking of the mineral content, obviously the mineral content in the Valley
waters is not sodium chloride, but what minerals do make up the bulk of the
mineral salts in the water?

Thanks,
Scott
