Re: [Killietalk] Hatching decapped artemia
I have described how I used to do the decapping, which is similar to the
method used by most people. It's not all that messy, but takes a little
more time. It's worthwhile if your eggs are substandard. I get excellent
hatches when I decap daily and not having to worry about empty shells is
nice. I don't current do it due to the high quality of the cysts I get
from JEHMCO.
I have also experimented with storing the decapped cysts under
concentrated brine (which is how they have to be stored), but have found
that the viability is very variable and the storage life is limited. I
know that David Lains stores decapped cysts this way, or at least used
to, so maybe he'll comment.
