Re: [Killietalk] Just remove me from the list now ego tripping

JC
Some thoughts...

-Hardly endorsing Wrights poignant remarks, but I put a lil more
consideration in his (and your)" complaints" than the other "satellite"
types that never offer anything EVER, and if they do bother to post, its
only a "complaint" about list chatter (or offer some well timed remark about
using the "delete" button)...that's like someone getting a free newspaper
then complaining to editors they hate what the columnist write about...

-I think list etiquette goes too far sometimes; Lees post <for example> are
usually excellent but sparse, often leaving me wanting more info, a few
others are even more Spartan for fear of "wasting bandwidth"...somewhere
between those overly abridged post and my verbose "oratories" is a less
verbose but efficient "blog"...with enough detail (from a range of posters)
to track "trends"...I wonder if people are simply afraid of looking
foolish, or only have time to read but not post...a good example of what I'd
like to see is the recent australe/egg thread; I've also noticed better egg
production in group setup...just wishing a wider spattering of people would
go ahead and "blog" the list and post their unique experiences a lil
more....

-I hate to say it, but unlike "model trains" (where you can go to the store
and buy the target interest commercially) our "commodity" is passed on
mostly by "relation" & networking...if you think that allegiances,
agreements, et is not somewhat influenced by "who has what", "who is who",
et...then think again...as the arguments flow, I seriously doubt every
opinion expressed carries the same impartiality as it does in other hobby
segments///...be careful that you are not pariah and/or moderated because of
who you twist off...unfortunately in this day & age people can & will "judge
you" by your cyberspace presence; for lack of any other info (although I
suspect you, like me, could give a darn, he he he)

-all too often the list is used to endorse current AKA "status quo" rather
than modify it...granted the list was created <partially> for just that
purpose, but things get "sorted" & subjective when any opposition creeps
in...basically it's sort of censorship based on opinion, always a sure sign
that power & influence is being centralized and/or "consolidated"...The
explanation that the AKA is a "representative body" comes to mind....IMO,
that's a "explanation of a process", it has no implied logic or efficiency
attached to it, and interestingly any counter arguments thereto are entirely
suppressed and/or moved off list...
IMHO, if the argument is going to be a "fish only" forum/list then I say
enforce that, and get rid of all the cheeky/fuzzy announcements, and other
malarkey...to me that garbage is also "list clutter", but I've yet to
complain about it...

-I won't be posting anymore...I've said my piece, perhaps too much...not run
off, but for years I just listened, and sometimes that's good too...my level
of involvement has ended, it will be impossible to do any good so long as
the process of change is funneled "internally"...basically if the current
members like it "As is" there will never be external influence or growth
beyond "900" because the process of change (or any process) is hidden from
external view...and any call for change is labeled "criticism" and that's
not allowed here lest the "old bullies" hold their fish/collection trips
hostage...this mail-list is one of a few "AKA external" venues for
non-member killie nutz to post, and IMO it's important that what we do be
highly visible (for better or worse)

...what I find counter productive is; if the "non-AKA" list subscribers are
killie keepers, wouldn't we like to know why? And if AKA biz turns them off
list, so what!, why bother to provide them with a venue if they are
"non-contributors" anyway? Look, sometimes bickering shows
"activity"...granted fighting can be a turnoff, but also can be a draw to
those who like to be involved.....I'm going to say this in the strongest
terms possible: being a "REPRESENTATIVE club" is likewise a potential
turnoff; it does not efficiently encourage nor draw "activist/workerbee"
types....we can add all the CD's, magazine articles we want, but that just
makes this a book club and not a TRUE CLUB (with the inherent draw of the
more passive "book club" types....solicit and encourage DIRECT involvement,
ESPECIALLY in cyberspace,....that's the way towards growth in today's
world...no wonder you get complaints from the "passive types" about "list
clutter"...they are not getting their moneys worth in the "book club", uh,
erh AKA....I say let them go their merry way towards Amazon.com...

I want to invite all of you to join
www.dallaskillifish.com as they have a great forum with a JOKE section and
other fun things like name this fish to help us all improve our spotting of
fish species.

I to am upset about Rob being run off. Yes I found alot of his post
lacking content and/or a refference to what he was talking about but I know
where my delete button is. Not only was he new but had a language barrier to
over come as well. I never once said anything about his post. I am new to
killies yet with almost a year being with one species and 8 months with the
next 2 species. I know some of my post ruffled feathers and if it was not
for a couple of caring people emailing me off list I doubt I would be here.
I have had tropical fish for 20 years and bred several thousands of fish for
market. Yet I am a newbie to these fish and have respect for those who
respect others.

I say let all speak as long as it is not flame. Teach not ban, as this
promotes a better out look for the future. All Rob needed was a helping hand
to change his ways as he meant no harm. Those that have his email please
invite him to the Dallas group as that group is more free at heart.

                          Later, John
