Re: [Killietalk] Giant Blue Gularis (WOW)

I had 2 pair of BGs in the early 80s. They were much bluer then any of
the photos could find on line. Really lived up to the name "Blue"
Gularis. I definitely think that the something changes over generations
kept in captivity. I've talked to "old timers" rose gardeners. Their
recollections of old roses indicate the same thing happens in flowers.
For example: "Peace", which was introduced in 1945, was much more robust
and colorful than the pale scrawny versions of today. They have been
grafted and re-grafted many generations over the years. I believe there
is an ongoing search to find a really old Peace as a source for new bud
grafts. What's not clear is whether our flora and fauna fades, or just
our memories. Same principle as the "Good old days".

BTW: I got eggs from them, but they never eyed up. Just sat there,
clear and round for weeks, until they finally would shrivel up and
disappear. Never occurred to me to dry incubate them. Duh!! Just
another of my failed attempt to breed killies. I never have gotten any
past the fry stage!
